The Art of Giving - Emma Scott-Child (@__ladyland__)

I'm Emma, I'm the creative director of Junction Studio, a branding agency in Brighton as well as being a mum, a cat person and a self-confessed vintage chair addict. I also blog about interiors and crafts on my website Ladyland

Best gift you have ever received?

The first year that we were together, my husband gave me an elaborate birthday present, I unwrapped it to find a huge vintage encyclopedia called '200 Years of Australian Sport' - WTF? I'm really not a fan of sport! Then I opened the book and he had cut out all the pages and created a hollowed out box with a beautiful jungle print dress inside. He was really trying to impress. It worked!

Best gift you have ever given?

For my Dad's 70th birthday we took him on a tour of his childhood, we rode a steam train, hired an old MG, we went to the beach where he grew up and ate his favourite ploughman's lunch at a country pub. Then I made it into a photobook which he absolutely loved.

Do you like surprises or do you write a list?

I think I prefer a list. But a long list, so you still don't know what you're going to get.

Lots of little gifts or one main present?

Lots of little ones, then it takes ages to open them all.

Favourite person to buy for, and why?

My kids, I get totally carried away with toys and books. Museum gift shops are my ideal place for a shopping spree, so many clever toys and nicely designed bits.
